Discussion:
[Inkscape-user] add new row/col in gradient mesh?

Hi Friends,
Is it possible to add a new row or column to the gradient mesh, after
the mesh is already created? I've looked at the wiki page, but it doesn't say.
I've tried double-clicking on a row or column, but it doesn't add any new
node/stop or row or column. I've tried spinning the number on the control bar,
but doesn't do it either.
I know that double-clicking on a regular linear or radial gradient is
supposed to add a stop, but it doesn't work for me. I always have to use the
gradient control bar to add new stops. So I wouldn't be surprised if that's how
the mesh is supposed to work, but doesn't.
I'm thinking of posting a feature request "bug" report, but not sure
whether I need to ask for the ability to add nodes/stops, rows or columns; or
just the extra button on the control bar.

Thanks for your help,
brynn

Double click on a patch edge (the straight or curved red or blue
lines). The patch will be divided at the point you clicked. One can
also select two adjacent corner nodes and hit Shift-I. The patch will
be split at the midpoint.

Linear gradient stops can be added by double clicking on the line
connecting the two end stops. Adding a stop to a radial gradient works
the same way.

- Earlier on, this also worked when using the node tool (or any other
tool that had 'gradient editing' activated), which I found very
convenient. Since 0.91, one can only move stops, but not add them with
any other tool on the canvas than the gradient tool, which is slowing
down my workflow (never even needed to switch to gradient tool before 0.91).

Not sure if that's the same thing Brynn means, maybe not?
Double-click with gradient tool works in my preview installation.

Maren

Well, as I said, the double-click isn't working in the mesh, any more than it
works for the other kind of gradients. Yes, I'm clicking right on top of the
blue line, when the cursor shows an extra + sign. (Actually, it does work
sometimes on the other kind of gradients, but not reliably. I have no idea why
it sometimes does work, but most of the time it doesn't.)

Is a "corner" any diamond shaped node, or is it literally 1 of the 4 corners?
Also, is that Shift + L or i ? So far neither one works. But I might not
have the right nodes selected.

Oh great, now it's crashed. It's not even a very large file.... But maybe when
I open it again it will work..... Hhm, no such luck.

Thanks for your help :-)

Have you tried renaming your preferences file? I found a few different
situations where I could get reproducible crashes with the mesh tool
and a fresh preferences files seemed to always make them no longer
producible.

Cheers,
Josh

I happened to be on IRC earlier (with I almost never am) when suv told me that
this problem has been fixed already. So we can drop the whole discussion now.

Thanks,
