Original gears made in Inkscape with the gear effect, then the .svg's are imported into Blender, extruded and animated.

First attempt, 2 gears:

Second attempt, 5 gears (1 annulus gear, three planetary gears, and a sun gear). Had a heckuva time figuring out the rotation for the central gear. Run the vid twice. For some reason, the first time it runs way too fast.

SWEET! The 5 gear animation reminds me the the Ubuntu logo...or perhaps Kubuntu. ;) Excellent work.

I have thought about something like that. Only a Movie countdown. Something like this:

Which I did entirely in Blender, but with some gears added. I was thinking something steampunkish.

How did you animate this? Did you import the SVG into
Blender? A while ago, someone posted an animated clock
consisting of several planetary gears. It was online as
an SVG, and the animation was done using JavaScript.
