[Inkscape-user] 0.92.1 macOS unofficial test build

Hi all,

I (with lots of help from su_v) have been working on getting the macOS DMG build working again with a view to having an official DMG ready for the future 0.92.2 release.

The current _unofficial_ test build of 0.92.1 is available here:

https://inkscape.org/en/~tghs/★inkscape-0921-tghs_2-x11-107-x86_64dmg

Included in this build is a new feature to automatically set the recommended XQuartz configuration. You'll be prompted about this on launch if you've got XQuartz running in its default configuration. This used to have to be set manually, as documented here: https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/.

Any feedback is welcome. Since it's a test build, please don't file any bugs; reply in this thread, or contact me directly by email. I'm also around in both the #inkscape and #inkscape-devel IRC channels.

Cheers,
Tim

Is this one still only for developer or advanced user testing?

This build should be fine for most users to try, now that the missing features and UI glitches in earlier builds have been fixed.

Hi Brynn,

where to find the list of 'all' recipients depends on your email client.
I see it right at the top of an email, after I hit 'reply'.

Maybe you'd need to activate some kind of 'verbose' or 'full' option in
your email program.

Maren

Yeah, I just realized something weird is happening. This is a slightly
different version of Windows Live Mail than on my old computer, so I've gone for
help with MS tech support (which is shockingly less than helpful, most of the
time). Hopefully I can at least get a clue.

Thanks :-)

After getting some help from MS about this, I think it's possible some admin
settings for this list may have recently changed.

On all the other lists, if I hit Reply All, my mail program correctly addresses
the reply to everyone in the headers.

But on the User list, if I hit Reply All, it does not always reply to the
sender. It replies to the list, and to everyone in Cc. But often it does not
address to the From header. MS tech support says that lists can be configured
in a lot of different ways, like for example, some mailing lists don't let you
address individual subscribers - only the list. So maybe something has changed
recently?

Plus, there has been an downright outbreak of people addressing their message to
2 different addresses, which for some reason, both work. Why would people be
doing that all of a sudden? When you subscribe to the mailing lists, only one
address is given(lists.sourceforge.net ). So how do people even know about the
2nd address. I wonder if some admin changes (accidentally or otherwise) might
have happened?

After randomly checking several messages, I see that the lists.sourceforge.net
address is always first, and the other, lists.sf.net is always 2nd. Could that
2nd address somehow be added automatically?

All best,
brynn

Subject: Re: [Inkscape-user] 0.92.1 macOS unofficial test build

Yeah, I just realized something weird is happening. This is a slightly
different version of Windows Live Mail than on my old computer, so I've gone for
help with MS tech support (which is shockingly less than helpful, most of the
time). Hopefully I can at least get a clue.

Thanks :-)

Hi Brynn,

where to find the list of 'all' recipients depends on your email client.
I see it right at the top of an email, after I hit 'reply'.

Maybe you'd need to activate some kind of 'verbose' or 'full' option in
your email program.

Maren

For me, it seems like when I click Reply All, it's sending to both addresses.
It's weird, because I only have one of the addresses in my contacts. Where is
it getting the 2nd address?

Yeah, me too. I don't understand why there are 2 addresses anyway.
I suggest that whenever we finally can move the mailing lists, we make sure each
list only has 1 address.

Could everyone please check for duplicate user mailing list addresses in
their replies' address fields?
I'm getting almost every message to the user mailing list twice lately.
Thank you!

Very cool! I'll spread the word. I'll also mention to send you bug reports,
instead of LP.
Thank you so much for your awesome work!

This build should be fine for most users to try, now that the missing features

Hi all,
I (with lots of help from su_v) have been working on getting the macOS DMG build
working again with a view to having an official DMG ready for the future 0.92.2
release.
https://inkscape.org/en/~tghs/★inkscape-0921-tghs_2-x11-107-x86_64dmg
Included in this build is a new feature to automatically set the recommended
XQuartz configuration. You'll be prompted about this on launch if you've got
XQuartz running in its default configuration. This used to have to be set
manually, as documented here: https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/.
Any feedback is welcome. Since it's a test build, please don't file any bugs;
reply in this thread, or contact me directly by email. I'm also around in both
the #inkscape and #inkscape-devel IRC channels.
Cheers,
Tim

After getting some help from MS about this, I think it's possible some admin
settings for this list may have recently changed.
On all the other lists, if I hit Reply All, my mail program correctly addresses
the reply to everyone in the headers.
But on the User list, if I hit Reply All, it does not always reply to the
sender. It replies to the list, and to everyone in Cc. But often it does not
address to the From header. MS tech support says that lists can be configured
in a lot of different ways, like for example, some mailing lists don't let you
address individual subscribers - only the list. So maybe something has changed
recently?
- I wouldn't think so, but who knows...
Post by brynn
Plus, there has been an downright outbreak of people addressing their message to
2 different addresses, which for some reason, both work. Why would people be
doing that all of a sudden? When you subscribe to the mailing lists, only one
address is given(lists.sourceforge.net ). So how do people even know about the
2nd address. I wonder if some admin changes (accidentally or otherwise) might
have happened?
- It's because they answer into the same thread, only change the title.
Someone added both addresses in at some time, and many people are
reusing that thread for their new threads.

It's not a big deal to just remove one of the two addresses (.sf. or
.sourceforge.) from the 'reply' fields (of course, how easy it is
depends on the software you use for writing your emails - some have a
low discoverability, obviously.)
Post by brynn
After randomly checking several messages, I see that the lists.sourceforge.net
address is always first, and the other, lists.sf.net is always 2nd. Could that
2nd address somehow be added automatically?
- No, this can be controlled by the user who sends the message. Of
course it would be good if sourceforge could somehow filter the
duplicates out, but they don't, and mailing lists are on the list of
things that will be moved 'soon', so I wouldn't bother too much with it.

Maren

Tim,

Just saw this, and am pretty happy about it. I'll be downloading at work
tomorrow (where I have a Mac) and testing. I'll update here if I see
anything.

Anything in particular I should be looking at besides what I normally
use it for?
