Was thinking. In AutoCAD we have this feature called "Match Properties". Basically, if you have two
different objects with different properties, say color, layer, or linetype, one can select the
source object (the one with the properties that you want) and apply it's properties to the target
object. Is there anything in Inkscape that is similar?

After copying (ctrl-c) the source object, select the target object and
do "Paste format", ctrl-shift-v. It doesn't paste the layer, but it does
the fill and stroke colours and the stroke style, also the font, point
size, &c for text objects. On the edit menu there is also a range of
"Paste Size" options for copying the dimensions of the source.

You can copy an object then paste its style on another object. Not
sore if it will change a layer, though.

Copy the source object, then select target object and Edit > Paste Style ;)
